A leading integrated cabling and switch manufacturer was using outsourced solar fuses that were not performing in excessive heat. To help reduce and eliminate these failures, the manufacturer was installing a higher amperage fuse, at a higher cost. They were also incurring the added costs of physically replacing the blown fuses sooner than normal and needed a new solution quickly.
Littelfuse stepped in with their SPXI and SPXV 1500 V dc solar fuses and fuse holders. The performance and quality of these products impressed the manufacturer. In addition, Littelfuse worked with the manufacturer to take into account the time-sensitivity of the project and provide an inventory strategy that would work for them. With better, more reliable performance, the Littelfuse solar fuses and fuse holders saved the manufacturer costs while preventing downtime.
An OEM of solar power systems was designing energy storage systems that incorporated a new, more efficient inverter. This inverter relied on a high-power insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) that operates at both high voltage and high current which, if not protected, could lead to thermal runaway, destruction or even fire.
If the inverter failed, and caused the energy storage system to be offline, it could force an electric utility to buy power at a premium to meet peak demand.

The Class J Fuse Disconnect Switch combines a switch and multiple fuses in a single, compact device. This switch, with both front or side operation, offers a simpler way to manually open and close a circuit while safeguarding against overcurrent and short circuits.
